What a game! The Flyers defeated the reigning Stanley Cup
Champs, the Los Angeles Kings. This makes it a three-game winning streak for
Philadelphia. Ray Emery has been hot in net, and has been the winning goalie
for the past three games. The game ended in overtime, with an awesome break
away goal by Brayden Schenn. A Flyers-Kings game is always a big one. The Kings
are also known as the “Flyers of the West”. There are many former Flyers that
play for LA. The most significant former Flyers on the Kings are Mike Richards
and Jeff Carter, who were both part of “block-buster” trades back in June of
2011. That was a hard day. Other than Jeremy Roenick, Mike Richards (Richie)
was my favorite player. I loved watching every shift he played. I had a couple
of his jerseys, even his Team Canada one. I got to meet him a bunch of times,
and that never got old. He was the captain of the team, and nobody saw this
trade coming. I cried. I actually cried. That makes me a true fan though,
right? The following season, Richards and Carter won the Stanley Cup with the
Kings. They won it again last season. It’s definitely a stinger for
Philadelphia fans, but I still really love Richie! The only good I can take
away from the trade is that in return, we got Brayden Schenn who netted to
overtime winner last night!
